ZHONG LING



Contemporary artist from China. He completed his studies at the Department of Decorative Painting, Central Academy of Arts and Crafts (now Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University). He was the former President of Beijing Watercolor Painting Association and Director of Beijing Watercolor Painting Art Committee. He is an Associate Professor at Beijing University of Architecture and Professor at Hebei Oriental College. Ling holds the esteemed titles of Art Consultant and Visiting Professor for CCTV Brand China, in addition to serving as a Visiting Professor at the Decision China Expert Think Tank in the Art Industry. Furthermore, he is a respected member of the Review Committee at Mall  Gallery in the UK, and is recognized as a National First-level Art Master in China.

Prologue

In the world of art, we are often bound by traditional concepts. Oil painting is renowned for its rich texture and depth, watercolors captivate with their transparency and fluid colors, while ink strives for the unique charm of ink tones and the strength of lines. However, I am not satisfied with immersing myself in the limitations of these individual mediums. I aim to merge them together, creating a more diverse and rich visual effect. It is this fusion of mediums that gives my work its unique artistic charm.

During the process of fusion, I found inspiration in Eastern philosophical thoughts. Eastern philosophy has a long history and profound meaning. It is a way of thinking that transcends time and space, a philosophical concept that integrates human beings with nature and the universe. By drawing on the thinking methods of Eastern philosophy, I hope to combine it with the expressive techniques of contemporary art, endowing my work with deeper thoughts and emotional connotations. Each piece is a modern interpretation of the unique charm of Eastern culture.

In this era of innovation, I firmly believe that innovation is the key to progress. Art needs to constantly challenge conventions and break free from traditional constraints. I am not content with sticking to the rules; instead, I dare to explore new forms of expression and techniques. Through innovation, I hope to carve out a unique artistic realm and elevate art to new heights.

My works aim to present viewers with a unique artistic experience, one that combines the fusion of oil painting, watercolors, and ink with the collision of Eastern philosophical ideas. In such artworks, I convey the ancient wisdom of Eastern culture colliding with modern innovation, allowing viewers to feel the power of art in its original form combined with Eastern aesthetics.

  • Professor Zhong Ling's art works were privately exhibited and enjoyed at the Beijing Manor, accompanied by a private dinner hosted by Mr. Berry. (Beijing, 2023)
  • Professor Zhong Ling was appointed as an "Art Consultant" by the CCTV Brand China Expert Group. (Beijing, 2023)
  • Professor Zhong Ling was invited as a "Visiting Professor" by the CCTV Brand China Expert Group. (Beijing, 2023)
  • Professor Zhong Ling was elected as a member of the Review Committee at Mall Gallery, UK. (London, 2023)
  • "Love Art and Fashion" Dual Exhibition by Zhong Ling and Hao Li at 798 Li Gallery. (Beijing, 2022)
  • "Fashion Classic. Calligraphy and Painting Invitational Exhibition (21st edition) at the China National Academy of Painting Art Museum". (Beijing, 2020)
  • "Sino-Korean Ink Rhyme - 2019 Sino-Korean Calligraphy and Painting Masters Exchange Exhibition" held its opening ceremony at the Incheon Culture and Arts Center. Three ink wash paintings, including "Chasing Autumn," were exhibited. (Incheon, 2019)
  • Won the "Artist of the Year Award" at the 2019 Beijing International Abstract Art Exhibition, and "Perilous" abstract ink wash painting received the "Silver Award" at the exhibition. (Beijing, 2019)
  • Published "Zhong Ling Oil Painting of Contemporary Academies" by China Architecture and Building Press, and distributed in nationwide Xinhua Bookstores on October 4th. (2019)

  • Published the watercolor sketchbook "Watercolor Sketching Journal" with China Electric Power Press in 2007. (2007)
  • Participated in the "Beijing-Xinjiang Watercolor Exhibition" with the works "Imagery 01" and "Imagery 02" in Urumqi in 2006. Also participated in the "Century of Chinese Watercolor Painting Exhibition" with the work "Endless Night" at the National Art Museum of China in the same year. (2006)
  • Participated in the "Asian Watercolor Painting Exhibition" with the work "Endless Night" in Busan, South Korea. Also participated in the "Second Li Jianchen Award Watercolor Biennial Exhibition" with the work "Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses" in the same year. (Korea, 2004)
  • Held the "First Chinese Youth Watercolor Painting Academic Invitation Exhibition" at the National Art Museum of China, exhibiting 28 works (National Art Museum of China, 1997).
  • Beijing TV filmed a five-episode TV special "Zhong Ling's Watercolor Painting Techniques" and broadcasted it multiple times. (1996)
  • The work "Mani Gan Ge's Dusk" participated in the "World Watercolor Painting Exhibition" (Taiwan, 1992).
  • The work "Beijing Autumn" won the "Excellence Award" at the "International Modeling Art Exhibition" (France, 1992).
